The Box

We just bought our first piece of NEW furniture in nearly 8 years of marriage. We have been lucky to have lots of donated pieces and hand me downs from our families. With our fun "new" couch though, our old coffee table with deathly sharp corners needed to be replaced. So, we ordered an ottoman.

The best part of the ottoman (besides its durable leather, storage space, and jumping capabilities) was the box it came in. My kids have been thoroughly entertained for a week. The box is a spaceship, swimming pool, and bed, among other things.

Lindsey loved the bed idea so much that she actually slept in it for several nights. The best part of that being that she couldn't escape once we put her down for the night.
The box is dying tomorrow so Jack can use it at T-ball practice for sliding practice. We'll miss you big old box!!

Genetics?

We had an interesting discussion at dinner last night. Lindsey Lou Who was eating spaghetti and making quite a mess. Now, it is hard not to make a mess eating spaghetti, but she can make a mess eating any sort of food. Take a sandwich for example. She will open it up, lick both sides of the bread, poke holes in the bread, somehow get food on her hair, knee and toe, and call it good. Yogurt? Let's spread it all over the table with our fingers before we take a bite.

She may be the messiest eater alive. She has always refused to use utensils and she is currently using the bottom of the table to wipe off her hands (mind you there is a napkin sitting right in front of her). And she is insisting on trading seats at the dinner table each night, so there is no safe chair anymore at our dinner table (hmm, no one is probably going to accept a dinner invitation to our house anymore with that said :)).

Clint asked me if I thought the mess making was genetic. He asked if I thought he was that messy as a child. I laughed at my slightly OCD husband and said there was no way he was ever that messy at any point in his life. He may be the cleanest eater alive, which caused me to reflect on my own eating habits. I admit I can get a little messy sometimes and Clint is always pointing out something I left on my face (it is usually something chocolate), but I don't believe I was ever as messy as little miss.

We came to the conclusion that it is simply part of her personality. She is making up for her lack of physical mass (nearly 3.5 years old and 26 pounds) by gracing her all with her uber-personality. She has to make her mark somewhere.

So for now, I am destined to spend at least 15 minutes cleaning up the table around where she sat after every meal and at least that much time trying to get stains out of her clothes, and reminding herself that she will grow out of this stage by the time she starts dating (maybe).

We love sun!

We got a zoo pass this year and checked out the new penguin exhibit with friends. We look forward to spending many afternoons there this summer.

Jack playing one of many sports on the driveway. We usually switch between basketball, soccer, football, frisbee and baseball. He usually has an outfit change in between each sport.

Lindsey stays completely content rolling around our driveway in her Little Tikes car with a bowl of some sort of snack and a cup of water. She occasionally goes racing down the sidewalk, but then she loses car privileges so she has been doing less of that :) Thank goodness- I always look like a goon running full speed down the street after her!

We're getting the beach bag ready, buying popsicles and Crystal Light, and trying to get used to putting on sunscreen again---summer here we come!!

Full day Kindergarten

A few weeks ago we registered Jack for kindergarten at his elementary school. They offered full day, but I decided to sign him up for half day for a few reasons (most of them selfish).....1)I am not ready to release my "baby" into the big bad world- I want him home with me for at least half the day as long as I can so I can keep him clean and pure. 2) Who is going to keep Lindsey busy in the afternoons?!? 3) I love hanging out with Jack. We have so much fun together and I love the conversations we have.
Well, I was devastated yesterday when I found out that our elementary school is now a Title 1 school and will ONLY be offering full day kindergarten in the fall (the only good thing is that it is free). My little boy is going to be gone from 9:30 to 3:30 every day next year. I think I have cried 5 times already anticipating how much I am going to miss him. Time to start the house search again, avoiding the areas with Title 1 schools :)
