Thanksgiving Weekend

We traveled real far this Thanksgiving....across the street! My parents hosted us along with Clint's parents and older sister and family. Chad was home from BYU and my grandma came over for the day as well.

The two kiddos eating the Thanksgiving feast. Our picky eater, Jack, ate an orange, jello and the white part of a deviled egg. He finished off his meal with some ice cream. Our fabulous eater, Lindsey, ate turkey, mashed potatoes, rolls, jello, etc. The girl ate everything we put in front of her.

After dinner, the boys disappeared to watch the USC game. Chad, Jack and Clead (Clint's dad) watching some football! Clint played 2 games of flag football in the morning, but Chad was unable to participate because of a broken foot. Ironically, he broke his foot at BYU a few weeks ago playing flag football (or "fag football" as Jack calls it).

Lindsey scooted to the playroom after dinner where she played for some time. She loves playing with toys by herself and talking to herself as she plays. She is such a great baby!!

On Saturday, we headed downtown to see some gingerbread and tree displays at some local hotels. It was chilly and crowded, but the kids were on their best behavior. We enjoyed getting into the Christmas spirit together as a family. And what better way to end the evening? Dinner at Ikea!

Tagged!

This tagging thing is pretty fun. It has been entertaining to read what others have written. I feel like I know my friends even better! When I got tagged, it really forced me to sit down and think of some quirky things about myself. Clint helped me out on a few of them- however he also commented that I could write that I had no talents. Nice.
So, here are my 7 facts.....

1. I LOVE stormy weather!! I especially love it when it is super windy and rainy and I am inside watching the wild weather. I love getting caught in it every once in a while, but I would rather be indoors when the storm hits. Last winter, we had a huge windstorm blow through Seattle. Clint and I stayed up late to watch the trees blow back and forth and waited for the power to go out, which frequently happens in the Great Northwest. Oh, I hope we get some good windstorms this winter!!

2. I collect bags- plastic, shopping, paper, etc. You never know when you are going to need a good bag. I stuff bags in bigger bags, so I have 5 or 6 big bags full of bags. I use the plastic bags for poopie diapers, paper bags for collecting recycling, shopping bags for transporting things places, etc. Clint hates my bag collection, but I can't get rid of my bags. Like I said before, you never know when you are going to need a good bag.

3. I love reading People magazine. Whenever I go to the library, I check out the newest edition. I've thought about getting a subscription, but that's too easy. There is something about going through the piles of People magazines to find the newest edition to check out. I know I am weird. I feel like I know famous people intimately. I know who's dating who, who's having a baby, who's in jail, etc. I can't believe I'm admitting this....

4. I am a bit OCD (Obsessive Compulsive for those of you who don't get the acronym) about a clean car. I vacuum my van every time I see dirt in the car (which is a lot with 2 kids). I get extremely anxious when someone gets in my car with dirty, muddy feet. When this happens, I am already thinking about what product I am going to use to get the dirt out the carpet. Thank goodness I have car mats to catch most of the dirt, but there still is carpet exposed. I don't care as much about the outside of the car (however, I did wash it last January in 30 degree weather because it was filthy- in fact, I think that got my labor started), it's the inside that has to be clean.

5. I still have all my old boy band cds (and 1 Spice Girls cd) and play them on a regular basis. I love to blast them and dance around with Jack after I've finished working out for the day. I did it a lot when I was pregnant with Lindsey, so I think that is why she is such a good dancer (well, actually she just bobs back and forth to the beat) already. Now, I am NOT a great dancer!! I really wish I could dance, but I can't- that is why I only dance in the privacy of my own home with the blinds drawn. I won't even dance in front of my husband.

6. I find doing dishes very relaxing. I have no problem doing the dishes after dinner if Clint will keep the kiddos entertained. I love standing in front of the sink soaking and washing and thinking. I love the warm water on my hands as I scrub.
Oh, I've got to go find some dishes to do!!

7. I want to become a Lactation Specialist. I want to help new mommies breastfeed and learn how to love and comfort their newborns. After I had Jack, I had a really hard time feeding him. At the hospital where I delivered, they had a special lactation center where I spent many hours learning how to feed him. I also spent time on the phone with the lactation nurses as they walked me through different situations. These women were my heroes!!I would love to help other new mommies out the same way these wonderful women helped me. I am seriously considering a career in lactationary (okay, I totally made that word up ) when my kids are older.

So that is me in a nutshell. I can't believe I admitted some of these things, but all in good fun, right?!?

Scooter and Skipper

As Lindsey gets older, the kids are beginning to play together more. They play really well together as long as Jack is not sitting on top of Lindsey. They love to play in the book corner and make things with pillows and blankets (airplanes, boats, cars, etc- Jack has quite the imagination!). Jack has recently discovered how to skip, so he skips around the house most of the day. We have nicknamed him "Skipper". Lindsey has finally discovered how to move (Jack was walking at her age!). However, she has decided she is too dainty to crawl, so she scoots on her bottom using her hands. She reminds us of Gollum from the Lord of the Rings. We have nicknamed her "Scooter." She loves scooting under the kitchen table to play (I really have to keep the floor clean now!).

A trip to the Aquarium

We took a trip to the Seattle Aquarium on Veteran's Day with my mom. It was a very rainy, blustery day- the perfect kind of day to spend inside exploring!

Jack was only 2 months old the last time we went to the aquarium, so this was a brand new experience for him. His favorite part was watching the scuba diver swim in the HUGE tank with all of the fish. He could have sat there all day waving at the diver!

Here we are pretending we are deep sea divers!

Halloween

On Halloween, I took the bumble bee and pirate (in keeping with the Jack theme, he was supposed to be Jack Sparrow) to Ikea for a bit of indoor trick or treating. Jack pushed his own cart and made out pretty well. We had several people comment on how cute Lindsey looked and Jack would step forward and say, "But what about me? I'm a pirate!!" After dinner, we took the kiddos out trick or treating in the new neighborhood. Jack would forget what to say once someone answered the door, so he would stand there and say "Arrgh." Jack made Clint hold his pumpkin full of candy because it got so heavy. I have been enjoying that heavy pumpkin ( I know I'm awful- I only left him the smarties and tootsie rolls - he doesn't appreciate good chocolate!). This is the best pic of the both of them that I got on Halloween- Jack never looks at the camera and Lindsey tries to scoot away.

We survived!

We barely survived our move ( a missing moving truck, a baby who wouldn't let me put her down, more stuff crammed into our house than we had thought, etc.). We unpacked pretty quickly thanks to my parents and are quite settled in our new abode. The space is great!! However, Jack is pulling a Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde on us- one moment he is darling, the next he is the naughtiest little boy in the west. It's been a rough week at the Karren household. However, there are now many rooms where mommy can hide!!
